No permanent victory under the sun

- Farai Nerera

MAY I through your lovely daily newspaper differ with Zanu PF’s misguided notion that it liberated this country for good and, therefore, it has the right to deprive the populace of their democratic right to choose.

We have heroes for each age. I respect the liberation war heroes on the basis that they won a battle of an on-going war, that’s why the late Mozambican leader Samora Machel often said: “Aluta continua”, the struggle continues.

The Zanu PF leadership is now a liability to the country. It started the relay, but cannot hand over the baton to the next runner.

The enemy has returned to the battlefront with a different approach to once again take control of Zimbabwe.

Our deluded leadership has a tendency of flirting with the Bretton Woods Institutions, which is a clear testimony that the Look East policy was a flop. It only succeeded in putting us under Chinese bondage.

The Chinese are now feasting on our resources, while Britain has been drooling at our resources for some time.

Now an opportunity has been presented to it to be co-heirs to our inheritance with the Chinese. It’s a welcome development to it.

Our heroes gradually have lost weight because what they claim to have overcome is still lingering in our midst.

It is a complete shame to be precise, child play for Zanu PF leaders to boast of getting a warm welcome in London.

Britain has since realised that it is dealing with a self-enriching leadership.

I do not buy the sanctions mantra. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. It soon comes back for a new day. We are on the road to a new colonial era.

Recent events in Uzumba and other places are testimony that the Chimurenga victory is history. There is need for fresh blood to run the race or the gains of the liberation struggle will be reversed.

Until then, as long as Zanu PF is stuck in the 1960s ideologies, we are doomed. The opposition is not the problem, but Zanu PF is.

Its stranglehold on economic, social and political power on the basis that its leaders fought for the independence of this country is no longer tenable.

We have come to a point where yesterday’s enemies have made huge strides and have a firm grip on us.

Both the West and East must relate to us on our own terms, not theirs. Zanu PF has sold out .
