In response to Govt suspends striking teachers, OSONDU OWENDI says: I am of the opinion that Primary and Secondary Education minister Evelyn Ndlovu acted ultra vires to the Constitution since she has no mandate to hire and fire teachers. The onus lies with the Public Service Commission, unless this overzealous and well-fed minister has assumed dual roles. Ndlovu should be aware that most teachers she purports to fire were long employed before she became a minister. Therefore, she should respect her seniors and instead look into their plight and address them.

DUMISANI NDLOVU says: Primary and Secondary Education minister Evelyn Ndlovu and government have no authority to suspend them. Why is the Public Service Commission, their employer, silent on this? We are back to Stone Age era. That’s what happens if non-professional people assume power.

TAONA MOMBESHORA says: Teachers don’t negotiate salary issues or conditions of service with the Primary and Secondary Education ministry, but with the Public Service Commission, their employer. So that Press statement is null and void.

TAWANDA MERCER MPINGA says: If government suspends teachers, who will teach our children in the same space, remembering that government cannot hire new teachers to replace those who are on suspension. Our children’s right to education is being violated, period.

In response to ‘Ministers’ performance contracts illegal’, MUGABE ELIAS says: This is a mere publicity stunt. Nothing will come out of this.

In response to Gweru housing backlog balloons, TENDAYI MUDADIRWA GREENE says: This government must adopt the South African model of Reconstruction and Development Programme, whereby it builds basic houses for low-income earners. Our citizens may acquire stands, but it will take years for them to complete their houses due to the economic meltdown in the country. What happened to the urban renewal projects?

IN response to Performance-based contracts will foster good governance, SYDNEY SHONAI says: Nothing will change in this country as long as Zanu PF is in power. A government which suspends teachers just because they have asked for a better salary. What nonsense!
