Rangnick gushes over ‘amazing' Ronaldo strike

-

MANCHESTER United boss Ralf Rangnick had some serious praise for Cristiano Ronaldo after the forward ended his goal drought on Tuesday night.

Rangnick’s side have climbed into the Premier League’s top four following their 2-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The two sides headed into halftime with the score tied at 0-0, but it was Ronaldo who broke the deadlock in the 51st minute courtesy of a well-struck shot from outside the box.

That strike was his first in 2022 and brought an end to a sixgame goalless run, which was the Portuguese star’s longest goal drought since 2009, per Goal.

The match was rounded off by the 37-year-old’s compatriot Bruno Fernandes, who scored in stoppage time to seal a 2-0 victory for the Old Trafford side.

Despite reports of a rift between Ronaldo and Rangnick, the interim manager gushed over the striker’s performance after the match.

“That was an amazing goal,” Rangnick said, per Daily Mail.

“Not only an important one but an amazing goal. I think overall, it was a good performance by Cristiano.

“Energetically, he was on there, he was always trying to help the teammates, so I think in the last weeks definitely the best performance by him and a very, very important goal for us.”

Ronaldo took to social media to express his delight over the three points.

“Back on track,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Nobody gives up and there’s only one way to get back on track: hard work, teamwork, serious work.

“Everything else is just noise. Let’s go Devils!”

Ronaldo has now scored 15 goals and contributed to three assists in 27 games for United this season.
