ZIMBABWE female boxing star Kudakwashe “TakeMoney” Chiwandire is set to leave the country today for Zambia, where she will be involved in her biggest career bout contesting for WBC Interim Super Bantamweight title.

The fight was initially scheduled for January 29 before it was postponed to February 26 in Lusaka.

Chiwandire will fight Zambia’s crowning jewel and former WBC Super Bantamweight world champion, Catherine Phiri.

Her coach Clyde Musonda said Chiwandire was ready for the life-changing opportunity in her career.

“Our preparations were okay and in terms of training itself, my boxer will be mentally and physically fit for the fight, come February 26,” he said.

“I have now slowed down the training, I have reduced training to one session a day. I’m happy that she is in weight limit and she passed all medical requirements by WBC.”

Musonda believes Chiwandire will bring the title home and thanked those who gave a hand in making the preparations easy.

“This tournament is big and WBC is the number one boxing organisation in the world, so it is very important not to us only, but to the whole nation. So, we are not going for a holiday, but for serious business to put Zimbabwe boxing on the map. We can’t promise you much but to bring the belt home,” he said.

“We received support from the government through the Sport, Youth, Arts and Recreation ministry. Genau Pathology Laboratories provided foodstuffs for the camping since last year November and also medical check-ups for the boxer, including COVID-19. Perfect Designing supplied training kits for the boxer through its brand Swetal and she is the ambassador for the brand.”

Musonda said they did their homework on the opponent.

“We have done our homework through her (Catherine Phiri) last fights and now we are no longer interested in watching her fights. We are now watching fights from the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and others,” he said.

The 25-year-old will become the first Zimbabwean female boxer to challenge for a top WBC belt.
