Kaindu eyes Ngezi Platinum job
FORMER Highlanders and Triangle coach Kelvin Kaindu is one of the highprofile coaches who have reportedly applied for the vacant Ngezi Platinum Stars coaching job.
Reports early this week had suggested that the job had been given to former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari.
However, a source at the club disputed the reports saying the former Manchester City forward is yet to show interest in the job left vacant following the departure of Rodwell Dhlakama.
The source said they are yet to settle on the individual who will replace Dhlakama, with the club still accepting applications from prospective candidates.
Some of the candidates that have applied for the job, according to the source, include former Highlanders coach Kaindu as well as ex-Masvingo United gaffer Luke Masomere.
Kaindu spent over six years coaching various Zimbabwean clubs including Highlanders, Triangle and How Mine.
It was at Highlanders where he was most successful, leading the club to second place finishes in the title race in 2012 and 2013. On both occasions, he lost the title on goal difference.
At Triangle, he guided the team to a fourth place finish in 2015, their best since promotion.
The Zambian was also successful at How Mine, leading the team to the Chibuku Super Cup final in 2017, losing to Harare City.
Another coach of note who has reportedly shown interest in the Ngezi Platinum Stars coaching job is former Caps United coach Mark Harrison.
No comment could be obtained from Ngezi chief executive officer Nyasha Kadenge, but the source said a substantive coach would be appointed before the end of this month.
Takesure Chiragwi is currently in charge of the team on an interim basis.
