Kampira calls for unity in modelling
BULAWAYO-BASED male model Francisco Kampira (24) has called on stakeholders in the modelling industry to join hands for the sector’s growth.
Kampira made the remarks on Monday as he launched his book titled How to Become a Professional Model aimed at promoting and advocating for the rights of models.
“Let us build our modelling industry together as it is still on its knees. We should by all means help it to stand up and grow to international standards,” he said.
“I have already started building the industry by writing this book which targets aspiring models, professional models, groomers and coaches as it highlights the struggles models face in Zimbabwe.”
Through the book, Kampira said he sought to address the stereotypes around the modelling industry, adding that he had embraced criticism as a source of inspiration in this competitive industry.
“I want to break the bias that there is no money in the local modelling industry.
“I have penned down all that in this book and how you can go about it,” he said.
“For the book to be easily accessible, I will be selling it online and also distributing it to the country’s 10 provinces.”
Speaking at the same event, former Miss Tourism and director of Open Eye Studio Samantha Tshuma said the book will help not only models, but everybody in the modelling industry.
“You cannot write and sit on a book, hence it had to be launched so that models know their value and on how best they can monetise their profession,” she said.
“The book is inclusive as it touches on contract issues, many people are being abused by their superiors.
“It also applies to the corporate sector as at times companies need brand ambassadors and advertisers. It also addresses stereotypes around modelling.” Miss Teen Zimbabwe, Tumi Sibanda said: “The book is inspirational, it is one of a kind and it is bound to shake boundaries.” “Kampira has been in the industry for long, hence we don’t doubt his views and being groomed by Samantha Tshuma who had won many pageants says a lot.”
