Hwange seek quick PSL return
HWANGE are on course for a quick return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), judging by their performance in the first nine games in the Zifa Southern Region Division One league.
Another former top tier league side Zimbabwe Saints are struggling and may not be bouncing back any time soon.
The coal miners, who lead the pack of 18 teams, have won six of their nine games and drawn three and are the only club yet to lose a match in the league.
They are on 21 points from nine games.
Hwange, who are coached by former Highlanders gaffer Bongani Mafu, on Saturday drew 0-0 against title contenders Ratanang away from home.
The Innocent Mapuranga and Chipo Tsodzo-coached Ratanang are new in the league and are on position three with 16 points, three behind second-placed Arenel Movers.
Arenel beat ZPC Hwange 3-1 on Saturday.
Chikwata, who have been in the wilderness for some time and bounced back to Division One this year, have only won one game, lost six and drawn two. Zimbabwe Saints, who were once a powerhouse in the top league and won the 1988 PSL title, have managed a paltry five points in nine games and are on position 16 on the log-table.
At the weekend, they were clobbered 3-0 by equally struggling Ajax Hotspurs.
Last year, the leadership of Zimbabwe Saints held a Press conference where they promised supporters that Chikwata would soon be bouncing back to the PSL. In other games played at the weekend, Indonsakusa drew 2-2 against Bosso90 while Talen Vision beat CIWU 2-0.
Talen Vision, who narrowly lost the title to Bulawayo City in 2019, also struggled in the first games. Mosi Rovers edged Makhandeni Pirates 3-2, Casmyn rolled over Quality Foods 3-0 while army side Indlovu Iyanyathela beat Mainline 3-2. Mountain Climbers beat Binga Pirates 2-1.
