IN response to ‘Zim bound by AU democracy, governance charter’, MUZOKOMBA MOVERS says: The African Union is a club of dictators. That several countries, including Zimbabwe, have signed the instrument for domestication of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) is meaningless if its guidelines are not followed. Signing and operationalising such noble charters are two different things. We will give President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government the benefit of doubt, but history has taught us that a leopard does not change its spots.

ALBERT MURADZIKWA says: The African Union is a toothless organisation comprising leaders who promote dictatorship.

SCOTTY WAISON says: How can a club of dictators promote democracy? In Zimbabwe, eSwatini, Rwanda and Uganda, opposition activists are being harassed on a daily basis, but the African Union, which calls itself the doyen of democracy, remains quiet. Only last week, opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa was denied an opportunity to hold a rally in Marondera under the guise that he had not fulfilled the requirements of the draconian Maintenance of Peace and Order Act.

IN response to Mwonzora aide withdraws by-elections challenge, CHLERRY CHIKONYORA says: The court application was meant to make Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa endorse the holding of the March 26 by-elections, hence they filed opposing papers as a joinder. The strategy worked well for Zanu PF and a withdrawal was necessary since the objective was achieved. It is a fact that the court case was meant to solicit the position of the opposition, especially Chamisa in relation to holding of by-elections. President Emmerson Mnangagwa was sitting on an illegality of not proclaiming the date of the by-elections within 90 days as required by the Electoral Act, hence he needed Chamisa's authentication.

IN response to CCC to launch Gukurahundi policy document, CHENZIRA says: This is a welcome development. Such problems can only be tackled using policy documents which are crafted after wide consultation.
