TRIATHLON Zimbabwe (TZ) national team coach Pamela Fulton has expressed delight on being selected as one of the two head tutors at the Dakhla Development Camp set for Morocco next month.

Together with Redouane El Bakkouch who is from the host nation and is the national technical director of the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation, the two were appointed by the World Triathlon to take charge of the six-day camp which kicks off on December 4.

“I am extremely grateful to World Triathlon for entrusting me with this important task and being able to share my knowledge and many years of experience with these youngsters,” she said.

“There are two head coaches, so our responsibility will be to plan the camp schedule but also allow the other federation coaches to take charge of some sessions so they also grow and develop as coaches.

“This camp will be conducted in both English and French so I will lead the English side and the other coach will translate into French,” she said.

Last year, Fulton was also one of the two coaches to lead another junior development camp in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, while she also teamed up with South African Riana Robertson as head coaches for the Africa Junior development camp held in Harare back in April.

Fulton, whose profile has been growing on the international scene, was also head coach at the African Triathlon Union (ATU) Under-19 camp in Harare in 2020.

An elite triathlete for Zimbabwe between 1991 and 2004, Fulton is a holder of a World Triathlon Level 2 coaching certificate.

In 2019, she was selected by World Triathlon to attend the Women in Sport Academy High Performance Coach Course (WSLA HPC) pilot course in Hertfordshire, UK.

The course consisted of a five-day residential session, followed by online mentoring and group sessions.

She said the course had a positive impact in her career.

“This course honestly changed my life and as a result of this growth and development, I have been appointed as one of two head coaches for different Africa triathlon junior development camps within Africa,” she said.

Fulton is also the TZ vice-president, while she has been the head of development in the country since 2016.

“Please join in congratulating Pamela Fulton (Level 2 World Triathlon coach) who has been appointed by World Triathlon as one of the head coaches at the 2022 Dakhla Development Camp taking place in Morocco from 4th-10th December 2022,” TZ general secretary Carol Pakenham said in a statement.

“Development camps are held in the southern and northern hemispheres of Africa every year and junior athletes aged between 16 and 19 from across Africa were invited to apply to attend this particular camp,” she said.

“Pam has extensive experience as a head coach having facilitated and participated in junior development camps in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Egypt. Congratulations once again on your appointment Pam, safe travels back to Morocco.”

TZ said due to school commitments and the costs involved, athletes from Zimbabwe will not be able to attend the Dakhla camp but will apply for the next camp that will hopefully be held closer to home early next year.
