Chamisa down but not out
THE political landscape in the country has now changed. Inasmuch as Zanu PF wanted legitimacy from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, the current situation makes it hard for it to be recognised
Very soon the whole country will be in disarray.
We are now under a de facto government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa where the main opposition party in the country no longer have a say in the running of government. This has exposed the ruling party’s lack of appetite to promote democracy.
Now that Chamisa has left CCC we expect self-imposed secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu and his crew to convene a congress to choose a leader for the opposition party. Surprisingly, the people who were calling Chamisa a coward and a leader without a plan are now hiding instead of coming out to take his position. This shows that Chamisa is a national brand and nobody can take that away from him.
Leadership has its ups and downs. There is no leader who is perfect on earth so is Chamisa who also has strengths and weaknesses. I would like to believe that he has matured with age and learnt a lot from the past two decades where he operated under two dictators.
He is a national brand and a number of people will follow him.
No one in their right senses can be comfortable or like to swim in a crocodile infested pool. The party has been heavily contaminated. Chamisa’s decision to jump off the ship was a well thought out idea.
The environment in which the opposition is operating is so toxic, compromised and it cannot do anything given that the Judiciary is captured. There is need to activate the revolution.
Very soon we are going to witness more resignations from CCC councillors and Members of Parliament as those who were aligned to Chamisa continue to stand by him. This is not going to be the end of Chamisa and crew, but it is the genesis of a new revolution.
I see Chamisa coming out stronger cultivating the revolution after such a very huge drawback.
