Where do celebrities shop for clothes?

-

Unlike Kanye West, who made a clothing line off ripped clothing items and called it the Yeezy Collection, Zimbabwean celebrities almost never see their wardrobe choices trending. In fact, they leave all and sundry wondering where the hell they shop for their clothes!

“I’m my own designer my dear, I make my own clothes. I do shop locally and whenever I travel when the need arises. We’re not like the Beyonce Knowles of our time. Back home fortune and fame don’t go hand in hand so don’t ever assume we have an extraordinary expenditure on fashion,” said Fungisai.

She alluded to an unfriendly economic environment and a limping arts industry being the reason why local celebrities fail to thrive to the maximum.

“You most probably don’t bump into us because shopping for clothes isn’t a priority and fortune is yet to smile on us. I’m so particular about my looks so I’m more comfortable designing my own costumes especially where special occasions are concerned because I want my own style which is unique to me in the whole world,” said Fungisai.

The Luveve boy, Cal_Vin once stepped out in a tracksuit and a bandana to a red carpet event before he got the memo and corrected his mistake at the Zimbabwe Music Awards to which he wore a dapper grey suit.

Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi has stuck to her traditional attire while the likes of Albert Nyathi have wobbled between traditional wear and a plaid shirt on jeans with umqhele on the head.

The ninja president said he could only achieve his unique look by engaging the services of fashion designers.

“Most outfits are custom made by local designers and those from South Africa. I rarely buy clothes locally and instead maximise on opportunities that arise whenever I travel,” said Winky D.

The queen of talk shows in the country, Amai Rebecca Chisamba, said it is important for one to understand their body type before they take opinions about what to wear from other people.

“I buy clothes from different places like Wallis and Silver boutique in Borrowdale as well as Smart Fit in town. I also buy clothes whenever I travel. I look for what I like, it’s important that before you hear others’ opinions, you understand your body,” said Amai Chisamba.

She said one’s weight and their line of work are important factors to consider before buying clothes.

“There is some light material that just doesn’t work on big people because it shows all the curves and crevices of the body. There’s a difference between throwing clothes on your body and dressing up. I dress for elegance. I prefer long sleeved and three-quarter sleeves because I’ve got big arms. Sometimes sales people will tell you something is nice and is in your size but it won’t necessarily look good on you. You need to be confident about what you like and what works for you first before you spend money on anything.”
