ZOU opens Binga office

- Nozibelo Maphosa Sunday News Reporter

THE Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) will next month open an office in Binga District as the university strives to spread its reach to areas where locals are not serviced by institutions of higher learning.

ZOU acting regional director for Matabeleland North Regional Campus Mr Tawanda Dzama said the office will open on 1 September.

“The office will start operating with effect from 1 September. The Binga office will, however, only operate as a service centre and not a learning centre. We will be offering services that include student registration, marketing and we will also be distributing academic instruments to students,” said Mr Dzama.

Mr Dzama said the university will offer tutorials in Binga in the long run depending on the number of students who will enroll from the area.

“We will be operating as a service centre for now, but as time goes on, depending on the number of students who will enroll, we will soon offer tutorials, but for now tutorials and examinations are only offered at Hwange, which is the regional campus,” said Mr Dzama.

He said the institution chose to open in Binga since most of the students studying for a Diploma in Education were from the area.

“Many of our Diploma in Education students are from Binga, so we wanted to bring education to the door step of our clients,” said Mr Dzama.

He said ZOU was also looking forward to open another office in Victoria Falls.

“We might be opening another office in Victoria Falls in September if we can secure space in time,” said Mr Dzama.
