St Luke’s, Binga hospitals get ambulances

- Sandra Tekere Sunday News Reporter

A NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisation, Christian Youth Volunteers Trust (CYVaT) Bulawayo handed over two ambulances to St Luke’s and Binga hospitals on Wednesday, a donation expected to go a long way in improving the health delivery system at the two institutions.

The hospitals relied on a few old vehicles that they were using.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Matabeleland North provincial medical director Dr Nyasha Masuka said; “What the association did is a good gesture, other organisations should emulate what CYVaT did instead of complaining about poor delivery of patients in rural areas.”

CYVaT director Mr Merck Sibanda said the donation was part of a five-year plan which had seen them gather donations for the past five years.

“I am so happy that we have managed to accomplish our plans for the hospitals. It is not the first time that we are donating to hospitals, we have been donating hospital equipment for the past 10 years. I remember at one time the equipment we donated was of great use at St Luke’s Hospital that the institution was no longer referring patients to Mpilo in Bulawayo,” he said.

St Luke’s matron Mrs Rita Mthingi expressed gratitude to CYVaT for the support.

She said: “The donation is going to be of great help especially to St Luke’s as it is located along the highway where a number of accidents happen along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road.”
