We stand with the people: First Lady

- Harare Bureau

THE December Zanu-PF 16th Annual National People’s Conference in Masvingo will focus on crafting and full implementation of policies to improve livelihoods.

First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe, who is the ruling party’s Secretary for Women’s Affairs, said Zanu-PF was concerned with responding to the wishes of the people. She said this last Friday at a Zanu-PF fundraising dinner for the National Conference.

“As a ruling party, we will continue to keep our ears on the ground and strictly adhere to the dictates of our constitution so that we effectively respond to the people’s needs. The impending 16th National People’s Conference is one such constitutional process where we come together to review, co-ordinate and supervise the implementation of decisions and programmes of both the party and Government.”

Amai Mugabe said the Conference provided a platform to review the party’s strategies in empowering the people economically.

“More so, it reinvigorates and strengthens the party as it wages this economic revolution towards the total empowerment of our people,” she said.

The First Lady said despite current challenges, there was hope on the horizon for Zimbabwe’s economy.

“To date there has been considerable progress in the implementation of Zim Asset, with several deals worth billions of dollars having been signed in the areas of infrastructure development, energy, mining and manufacturing sector,” she said.

Amai Mugabe paid tribute to the business community for supporting the ruling party’s initiatives and remaining resilient despite prevailing economic challenges.

“Truly your business acumen and resilience, as well as your unending co-operation and support to both Government and the ruling party Zanu-PF, has kept this country’s economy afloat, even in the face of sustained economic sabotage by hostile Western nations. It is imperative that we maintain this spirit of oneness if we are to emerge victorious from this foreign induced difficult phase.”

Present at the dinner were Zanu-PF Politburo members, senior Government officials, Members of Parliament and business representatives. This year’s Zanu-PF national People’s Conference will be held at Masvingo Showgrounds from 13 to 17 December, with about 6 500 delegates expected to attend.
