Enforce $100 fine

-

ROAD traffic accidents are claiming lives in large numbers almost on a daily basis. People are slaughtered like animals on our roads by negligent road users. There definitely is a way out of this nightmare.

The following questions are directed to the Ministry of Home Affairs and other relevant ministries, why was the $100 fine not enforced the time it was talked about? Why does the ministry loosen up the laws of the land at the expense of people’s lives that can never be replaced?

As far as we are concerned when someone commits a road traffic offence they are putting their lives and the lives of others at risk. A large number of families have lost bread winners and they continue to lose them in road traffic accidents.

We kindly ask the minister to enforce the $100 fine for all the road traffic offences for the sake of peoples’ lives which are at risk every day. This is the only solution that if tried and tested will ensure that lives are not lost at the rate they are being lost.

We also urge the honourable minister to ignore all the road users who are against this fine because they are the very culprits who are murdering people.

This issue must be seriously considered, we are also road users but vigilant and responsible on the road, if we are to be involved in road traffic accidents it would be because of other negligent road users.

In other countries it is a very serious offence to drink and drive but in our country drivers of public transport are seen drowning in alcohol and carrying passengers at the same time especially kombi drivers. Surprisingly these offenders just go past a police road block with no problem. Why are things done differently in Zimbabwe when in other countries road users face jail or hefty fines for such offences?

Road traffic offences that we observe on a daily basis in our main cities include drunken driving, driving through red robots, driving through zebra crossing lines even when there are people crossing, not giving way to traffic which has a right of way, speeding and the list is endless. All these offences are committed by people who know and are fully aware of their offences. There is only need of the full wrath of the law to save our precious lives.

We are also road users and we are also prepared to pay that kind of fine as long as we are reckless on the road, and no one should be against this $100 fine.

Please, enforce this fine with immediate effect and those who don’t want to pay such an amount must avoid reckless driving on our roads. Frustrated and angry, Road user.
