Zambezi News wins award
ZAMBEZI News, which is perhaps one of Zimbabwe’s leading sarcastic comedy shows, featuring comical news anchors that entertainingly dig into daily issues ranging from politics to sport, won the Best Comedian Award at the African Entertainment Awards (AEA) held in New Jersey, USA about a fortnight ago.
Zambezi News, which is made up of local comics Comrade Fatso, Outspoken and Michael Kudakwashe, won the award, beating renowned African comedians such as Anne Kansiime, Trevor Noah, Clifford Owusu, Michael Blackson, and Eric Omondi.
In a statement Comrade Fatso, the brains behind the show said the award was a great endorsement.
“It is an honour to receive such global recognition for an edgy, political Zimbabwean comedy show. It shows the growing international appeal of African satire,” he said.
Selmor Mtukudzi also won an award at the event, as she scooped the Best Female Single Award.
She won an award for her song Zvidikidiki which got the most votes in a category which also featured South African songstress Zahara, Tanzania’s Vanessa Mdee, Kenya’s Victoria Kimani, Nigeria’s Seyi Shay and Cameroon’s Lady Ponce.
She scooped the same award last year for her song Nguva Yangu.
The African Entertainment Awards seek to promote, enhance and unite Africans globally while creating a platform for the voicing and advancing of African Diaspora around the world. The awards hope to play a role in addressing issues affecting Africans in the United States and worldwide.
