Highlanders have full squad, says Tsano

- Mehluli Sibanda Senior Sports Reporter

FOR the first time in many years, Highlanders already have a full squad, that is if goalkeepers coach Cosmas “Tsano” Zulu’s word can be believed.

Zulu, who has taken charge of Bosso’s first two weeks of pre-season training sessions ahead of head coach Erol Akbay’s arrival from Netherlands on Friday told journalists last Thursday that they have all the players they need for the 2017 season. The only slots left, Zulu said are those for the Under-20 players.

Eccentric Dynamos striker Rodreck Mutuma, who had his contract recently terminated by the Glamour Boys was said to be interested in a move to Highlanders, even though that could not be verified. Zulu refused to speak on Mutuma, stating that he could not comment on a player who is not part of their camp.

“As it is to be quite honest we don’t have any slot for any player, we have got all the players we want. Highlanders is full now, you can tell the whole country that we have all our squad, we are not taking anybody. We are full enough, I don’t want to talk about somebody who is not in my camp,’’ said Zulu.

Veteran striker Ralph Matema was offered a one year contract extension and it could not be ascertained if he had finally signed. The seasoned striker, whose previous contract expired at the end of December did not train when Bosso commenced their pre-season but started fine tuning with the rest of the team last week.

Acting chairman Modern Ngwenya said they have retained all the players in coach Akbay’s plans.

Meanwhile, Highlanders are scheduled to hold their pre-season training in Polokwane, South Africa from 5 to 11 February.
