Scribe bags Nac award

- Dickson Mangena Sunday News Reporter

SUNDAY NEWS senior reporter Tinomuda Chakanyuka hoisted the publication’s flag high when he was voted 1st runner-up at the inaugural National Aids Council (Nac) Media Awards held in Harare recently.

Chakanyuka received a trophy and certificate and will attend the International Conference On Aids And STIs In Africa (Icasa) in Cote d’Ivoire with Nac taking care of his expenses.

The Nac media awards, that were introduced this year to reward individual journalists in both print and electronic media who accurately and regularly report on HIV and Aids, were all scooped by Zimpapers journalists.

The scribe said he was proud with the recognition Nac has shown to his work. He said the accolade comes as an inspiration to do more.

“I feel humbled yet proud at the same time. I suppose it remains every journalist’s wish to have their work recognised in one way or another. I dedicate this achievement to my colleagues at Sunday News, Chronicle, B-Metro and the entire journalism fraternity. Their guidance, support, and criticism, both positive and negative are what yielded this. Lastly, I would like to pay tribute to my boss, Limukani Ncube and his lieutenants for their mentoring role which has seen us this far,” said Chakanyuka.

In a category of individual journalists who were nominated for wide coverage of HIV and Aids, Sharon Kavhu from The Southern Times was the first winner and received a trophy, a certificate and a sponsorship to attend an HIV Conference in France for five days while Mirirai Nsingo from H-Metro, who came third, walked away with a certificate, a trophy and $850.

In the category of electronic media with wide coverage, ZiFM won a certificate and a trophy for timeous and instant reporting, while Zimpapers came in second and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) was third.
