Lady Vicious calls for recognition of late musicians
LADY Vicious is one of Bulawayo’s unrecognised female Zim Dancehall gems, possessing a massive body of works, which only her fans appreciate.
Born Pindurai Mwakurudza, Lady Vicious, who is also an actress and reggae and dancehall DJ, recently called upon various stakeholders in the industry to at least set and have a date when fallen artistes are commemorated in the city.
Lady Vicious, who plays the role of Maputi, an evil stepmother, in the local TV soapie Sibahle Nje said she was also recently appointed chairperson of the Zim Dancehall movement in Bulawayo, which was formed in February this year.
“I recently released a song titled Zimbabwe, which is dedicated to all artistes dearly departed. As a movement and artistes we are basically asking Zimbabweans to commemorate the lives of departed artistes once a year. If Jamaica and the world can commemorate artistes such as Bob Marley, why can’t we do the same for ours?
‘‘We can have an organisation that caters for their families for just that day. We love and loved their music so why can’t we at least show appreciation by way of visiting and assisting their families if at all they need it,” said Lady Vicious.
Lady Vicious is a multi-talented artiste, whose entry into the showbiz industry dates years back, after she acquired a Multi Media and Arts Certificate at Amakhosi Arts and Cultural Centre.
She has featured on a number of local TV shows screened on ZTV.
Lady Vicious has also shared the stage with international acts such as Chris Martin and the recent Jamaican show held at BAC Leisure Centre.
Passionate about uplifting not only herself but others in the showbiz industry, she has been seen spearheading various workshops in the city, through the aide of other partners.
