THE Seventh Day Adventist Church is set to start constructing a new clinic in Bulilima District tomorrow which is expected to be completed within a record two weeks.

Bulilima Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr John Brown Ncube said the project was being funded by the church. He said a team of 30 professional builders had been deployed to construct the health care centre, Tematema Clinic.

“We have a clinic within the district which is set to be constructed by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The clinic known as Tematema Clinic will be located in Khame Ward. A team of 30 professional builders from different districts in Matabeleland South Province has been mobilised by the church. They will start construction on 12 June. The clinic structure is set to be completed within a record of two weeks,” he said.

Mr Ncube said the team of builders will be camped at the sight until the project was complete. He said they were expected to build the clinic structure, plaster and roof it within two weeks. He said building equipment for the project had been assembled.

“While professional builders will be responsible for the construction community members will also be assisting in every way possible. As a local authority we have also engaged members of the business community who will also assist towards making this project a success.

“Tematema Clinic will be built and run by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. This is part of efforts by council to engage different partners to bring about development within the district. As a local authority we are struggling with service delivery because of low revenue inflows and we value the input of various stakeholders,” he said.

Mr Ncube said the new clinic will help reduce distance being walked by villagers from Khame Ward to the nearest health centre.

He said villagers were forced to walk 15 kilometres to reach Huwana Clinic which is the nearest. Mr Ncube said villagers from surrounding wards will also benefit from the new clinic.

He said eight other clinics were under construction within the district namely Mbimba, Figtree, Gambo, Ngwana, Gwambe, Malalume, Somnene and Nopemano clinics. He said the construction work at Mbimba Clinic has been completed.
