Byo Chiefs invite four rural players
BULAWAYO Chiefs Football Club have invited four players from Godlwayo Southern Soccer League (GSSL) teams to train with their first team after identifying them during two friendly matches in Insiza last weekend.
Chiefs played against GSSL Northern and the Southern select sides from in a mini-tournament organised to create and foster relations between the Insiza South community and the Zifa Southern Region Division One club, giving the youth a chance to showcase their talents against more seasoned opponents.
The players identified by Bulawayo Chiefs scouts were Peter Msipha, Joseph Sibanda, Brainos Moyo and Allexia Ndlovu. Bulawayo Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda confirmed the invitation extended to the four players although he said the scouts had been impressed by six players in total.
“We were impressed by the six lads but we then invited four to train with our first team,” Sibanda said.
e organiser of the tournament Nkululeko Tshuma told Sunday News Sport that the event was organised to exhibit the untapped talent in the sport in Insiza district.
“We invited Bulawayo Chiefs in order to foster, cultivate and promote relations with Bulawayo football teams and create opportunities for exposure for the talent that is playing in our league. Matches like these offer youngsters an opportunity to showcase what they can do against experienced opponents.
“The tournament also gave the community a platform to enjoy football in their own environment and to help keep their youth away from social ills such as violence, robbery, drug and alcohol abuse. We believe that our community possesses promising young talent that is screaming for opportunities to get noticed,” he said.
During the tournament, the Godlwayo Northern select lost 2-1 to Bulawayo Chiefs, while in the match against the league’s Southern select, the more experienced Chiefs beat the home side 3-1.
“Many of our talented players were not available for the matches against Chiefs and I am convinced that some of them are Division One and Premier League material,” Tshuma reckoned.
“We hope to continue foster relations with Premier League and Division One clubs for the development of football in our community. Remember that we invited Bosso90 in February last year to a similar event,” Tshuma said.
