VILLAGERS in Ward 8 in Esigodini have received a major boost from the Rural Electrification Agency which is in the process of electrifying schools and homesteads in the area.

Ward 8 Councillor Alice Dube, said the project will help members of the community, especially the children in schools, to be able to use Information Technology Communication gadgets to enhance their lives.

“We are having a rural electrification project in the ward from REA. This will help our children learn how to use computers and villagers will also have their homes connected.

The project started in November last year and it is a good initiative that will help our schools and ensure that more qualified and experienced teachers choose to work in our area and help improve the pass rate in the district.

At the moment, REA is working on Tshalimbe, Shale and Zhilo primary schools.”

Clr Dube said the initiative would solve the problems that were faced by the members of the community.

“REA is electrifying schools because pupils were affected as they were unable to access ICT knowledge and moreover people were causing deforestation by cutting trees for firewood.”

Early this year REA also connected $450 000 power lines which will supply power to more than 2 000 households in Chikombedzi communal lands in Chiredzi.
