Lets nip robberies in the bud

-

I AM appealing to the Zimbabwe Republic Police to be on alert this Christmas and New Year holidays to curb the armed robberies which are on the increase these days in most parts of the city of Bulawayo and surrounding areas.

These armed robbers have already been witnessed in most districts and residents fear that due to the high number of people working in other countries like South Africa we will see an increased number of these dangerous cases. It’s very sad that some people have lost their lives after they were robbed of their valuable belongings before being gruesomely murdered.

The whole region of Matabeleland was recently shocked when a grandmother and her grandson were axed to death at their home in Bubi District of Matabeleland North Province. This came at a time when some people especially some pressure groups were lobbying for the abolition of the death sentence in Zimbabwe. I feel death sentence should not be abolished as this may cause citizens to take advantage of the fact that there is no death penalty in the country.

As I speak we have increased number of murder cases in our courts every week. We have hope that this festive season the armed robberies will go down and I am appealing to all Zimbabweans to join hands with police to fight crime in our cities this holiday.

Eddious Masundire Shumba, Bulawayo.
