Alcohol for all ages?

-

ALCOHOL not for sale to persons under 18? You must be kidding!

The words: Alcohol is strictly not for sale to persons under 18, are inscribed on all the legal alcoholic products in the world. However, this has not done much to stop minors from consuming alcohol and alcohol sellers to sell it to minors.

Supermarkets are no longer strict on who they sell alcohol to like back in the day where they were selling to adults only. Back in the days even if you were sent by an adult to go and buy alcohol for him/ her the shopkeeper would not serve you. But all that has changed as the behaviour of the new generation does not match their age.

You find minors buying liquor in liquor stores, drinking beer in bars and you wonder why they are allowed to buy alcohol. In an interview, liquor sellers and club owners whose names are withheld for ethical reasons said the under-aged groups are the ones who bring business as they are the group which consume a lot of alcohol.

“The under-age bring business for us because they buy a lot of beer and young girls attract older men with money and for that we cannot turn them away when they want to buy alcohol from us. When older men see young women they buy more alcohol to impress and that means more money for us and we know that allowing such behaviour is unethical but one has to earn a living,” said one of the club owners.

The supermarket managers and club owners argue that unless the policy is strengthened, it does not make business sense for them to stop selling alcohol to the minors while the competition continued to soar.
