Eight teams go into the hat for Insiza tourney

-

EIGHT teams, drawn mostly from the Godlwayo South Soccer League will converge at Singwambizi Primary School in Insiza for a one-day tournament today.

GSSL champions Mbembesi, runners up Dekezi will be joined by Mabuze, Vokola, Bhode, Mapewume and Singwambizi. Royal Somhlolo are from Mberengwa and the only team not part of the GSSL that is participating in the tournament.

A knock-out format will be used, starting with the last eight all the way up to the final. The draw will be conducted this morning while the duration of the matches will also be agreed upon looking at the time available on the day, seeing that there will be two grounds being used.

A total of $2 500 is in store for the tournament, with each of the eight teams to get something for participating.

The tournament is bankrolled by GSSL sponsors, Bhekimpilo Maranda Sithole, Zibusiso Majankwe Ncube and Kossam Mavuna Ndlovu, with the three calling themselves MMM.

GSSL executive chairman Khumbulani Moyo said they were expecting the teams to come out in full force. Moyo extended an invitation to big teams to come and identify talented players at the tournament.

“It’s an annual tournament, eight teams have been invited. We are also inviting scouts from established teams to come and scout for players so as give them an opportunity,’’ Moyo said.

GSSL champions Mbembesi

will be favourite to win the tournament as they have been the dominating team in Insiza South.

In September, the Fidelis Mudzingwacoached Mbembesi won the inaugural Indifa versus GSSL Champions Cup after they defeated Insiza Football Association log leaders Killonce 4-2 on penalties in the final played at Filabusi Centre.
