Zim poised for Polocrosse World Cup

-

A TOTAL of the 10 elite Polocrosse players will represent Zimbabwe at the 2019 Adina Polocrosse World Cup set for Australia.

The event featuring the world’s best Polocrosse teams will take place in Warwick Australia from 14 to 28 April.

Zimbabwe are one of eight countries playing next year alongside South Africa, Zambia, Ireland, United States, New Zealand, Australia and United Kingdom. The edition will be held to celebrate 80 years of Polocrosse existence.

As current world champions, South Africa will be fighting to hold onto the title, while former champions, Australia, are expected to use their home turf and supporters to their advantage to try and take it back.

While the horses and riders show off their talents on the field, spectators will get a up-close and personal experience from the sidelines where they can literally smell the sweat on the horses.

Polocrosse Combines the strategy of netball, the toughness of rugby, and the ball skills of lacrosse, polocrosse is an Australian made sport where action, power, skill and pace dominate.

The founding nation of the sport of polocrosse and of the World Cup championships, inaugural champions and the 2019 hosts, the Australia have twice won the Polocrosse World Cup.

Having lost in the final of the past two World Cups, the Australians are keen to reclaim the championship on home turf at the Adina Polocrosse World Cup 2019.

Heading into this World Cup Zimbabwe are ranked sixth and were winners in 1987 while South Africa are the reigning champions.

The new team coach, Gavin Cocker, originally from Zimbabwe has been a part of two winning World Cup teams for South Africa coming together with the highly experienced selected players and chances are high that team Zimbabwe can cause destruction at this completion. According to Leanne McBean the manager of the Zimbabwe Polocrosse World Cup team preparations are currently underway.
