Mat’land Tuskers, Mashonaland Eagles clash at Old Hararians

- Mehluli Sibanda Senior Sports Reporter

MATABELELAND Tuskers will look to record their first win of the season in the country’s premier first class cricket competition when they clash with Mashonaland Eagles at Old Hararians from today .

Tuskers have not been able to pick up any wins in the two matches they have played so far in Harare. First, it was the match against Eagles at Harare Sports Club in December which ended in a stalemate due to rain while last week, the clash with Mid West Rhinos was abandoned due to disturbances which rocked the country, with the match declared a no result.

After the abandoned match, Tuskers only managed to have training session on Friday at the match venue and then had a rest day yesterday as they gear up for the start of the match today.

John Nyumbu, the Tuskers Logan Cup captain said seeing that they were playing at the same ground, there was not much they could do in terms of the way they approach the fixture from the last one. What the Bulawayo based team will look to do is to build on individual performances to carry the team through as they search for their first win in the Logan Cup.

“We will look to go through the same processes and seeing that we are playing at the same ground there is not much to change in our approach. We don’t really dwell on the on the opposition, we just have to make sure we do our little bits as individuals that will build it up to a complete team performance,’’ Nyumbu said.

While Tuskers are yet to taste victory so far in the Logan Cup, Eagles have won one win from the three matches they have played and are on top of the log.

Meanwhile, Mountaineers will take on Rhinos at Harare Sports Club in the other Logan Cup which gets underway this morning. — @Mdawini_29
