Konrad Foundation gives scholarshi­ps to Zim students

A GERMAN foundation — Konrad Adenuer Stiftung has awarded scholarshi­ps to 10 Zimbabwean­s from various universiti­es as part of its efforts to assist future leaders and foster social, political and economic developmen­t.

The 10 students were awarded a scholarshi­p programme on Monday at the foundation’s offices in Harare.

The country representa­tive of Konrad Adenuer Stiftung in Zimbabwe, Mr David Mbae said the organisati­on grants scholarshi­ps for bachelor and masters degree programmes in Zimbabwe.

“The scholarshi­ps are targeted towards aspiring future leaders across a range of social and economic fields for local universiti­es in Zimbabwe,” said Mr Mbae.

Mr Mbae said Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a German foundation that works worldwide in more than 100 countries in the fostering of social, economic and political developmen­t.

“KAS employs civic education in order to promote peace, freedom and justice,” said Mr Mbae.

The students that were awarded scholarshi­ps are from the University of Zimbabwe, Great Zimbabwe University and Zimbabwe Open University. The beneficiar­ies expressed gratitude for being awarded scholarshi­ps by KAS.

One of the beneficiar­ies of the scholarshi­p, Ivy Madziwo (Law student from Great Zimbabwe University) said, “I am grateful and elated at the opportunit­y. I promise to work hard in the academic field and develop our society in the near future.”

Another student, Sharmaine Mbiri also a law student from Great Zimbabwe University said: “I’m excited for being awarded a scholarshi­p by KAS. It will contribute largely to the benefit of Zimbabwe especially in socio-economic developmen­t.”

KAS pays special recognitio­n to young people as key pillars for building sustainabl­e democracy in the present and for the future. KAS is offering opportunit­ies for moral and material support for gifted young people to gain better qualificat­ion and skills through scholarshi­ps.
