Konrad Foundation gives scholarships to Zim students

A GERMAN foundation — Konrad Adenuer Stiftung has awarded scholarships to 10 Zimbabweans from various universities as part of its efforts to assist future leaders and foster social, political and economic development.

The 10 students were awarded a scholarship programme on Monday at the foundation’s offices in Harare.

The country representative of Konrad Adenuer Stiftung in Zimbabwe, Mr David Mbae said the organisation grants scholarships for bachelor and masters degree programmes in Zimbabwe.

“The scholarships are targeted towards aspiring future leaders across a range of social and economic fields for local universities in Zimbabwe,” said Mr Mbae.

Mr Mbae said Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a German foundation that works worldwide in more than 100 countries in the fostering of social, economic and political development.

“KAS employs civic education in order to promote peace, freedom and justice,” said Mr Mbae.

The students that were awarded scholarships are from the University of Zimbabwe, Great Zimbabwe University and Zimbabwe Open University. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for being awarded scholarships by KAS.

One of the beneficiaries of the scholarship, Ivy Madziwo (Law student from Great Zimbabwe University) said, “I am grateful and elated at the opportunity. I promise to work hard in the academic field and develop our society in the near future.”

Another student, Sharmaine Mbiri also a law student from Great Zimbabwe University said: “I’m excited for being awarded a scholarship by KAS. It will contribute largely to the benefit of Zimbabwe especially in socio-economic development.”

KAS pays special recognition to young people as key pillars for building sustainable democracy in the present and for the future. KAS is offering opportunities for moral and material support for gifted young people to gain better qualification and skills through scholarships.
