HEAVY rain in Pretoria put a damper on the Zimbabwe Under-14 cricket team’s tour of South Africa where they were meant to take part in the Cricket South Momentum Under13 Week.

All the matches at the annual event were called off, with the Zimbabwean lads, who were in South Africa from 6 to 12 December confined to indoor activities.

Denford Kumundati, the Zimbabwe Under14 team manager said they managed to play indoor cricket. Kumundati said his boys had fine tuning sessions with Titans coaches since their matches were called off due to the rains.

“We arrived in SA Friday the 6th of December, we only played action cricket, that is indoor cricket vs SWD and won then the rest of the days we had HPC training sessions with

Titans coaches as it was raining the whole week of the tournament. All games were cancelled,’’ Kumundati said.

Sessions at the SuperSport Park indoor facilities were also arranged for the Zimbabwean lads who were housed at Affies, the former school for Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers.

“Sad but we managed to get some highperformance training for the boys in the SuperSport Park indoor facility and a chance to tour the ground. We were hosted at Affies School the school of AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis. Boys had a chance to be on the field they played on and the corner they sat in the DH,’’ said Kumundati.

Bowling all-rounder, Isaac Phiri of Falcon College was the captain for the David Mutendera coached Zimbabwean lads.
