OBhudas on decks bring maturity to Byo Deejaying
OBHUDAS on Decks is a new duo of experienced DJs from Bulawayo in the form of DJ Keitho and Grooveman, who have come together to give mature music experience to the masses.
Albert Hlabo and Keith Webster Ndiweni are DJs Da Grooveman and Keitho respectively, who make oBhudas on Decks and between them they possess over 30 years’ experience as wheel spinners.
DJ Keitho has played at Paparazzi, Pub Lagondola, Groove Nite Club (now New Alabama), Red Café, The Vista, Cape to Cairo, BAC Leisure among other entertainment spots while Grooveman has been around the block, performing at Brass Monkey, Zarah Lounge and Hustlers to name but a few places.
Grooveman said they want to bring a different feel on the decks.
“We want to give people an experience or set the mood wherever we are performing. We want to give people music that they’ve never heard when they’re in the club. We want to be pace setters not just being people performing known songs,” said Grooveman.
DJ Keitho has shared stage with Oliver Mtukudzi, Ringo and Sjava.
Asked to describe his music DJ Keitho said: “My emotive musical selections are my therapy. For me, utilising a customised timeline, lighting and personalised music programming I’m able to achieve a pleasurable balance of entertainment and hospitality for the people while I’m on decks.
“OBhudas on Decks is an experience. You’ll hear songs that you’ve never heard but you’ll enjoy the whole experience.” DJ Keitho said he is inspired by DJ Easy T and Babongile Sikhonjwa.
“Specialising in everything old school, from house music, hip-hop, R&B and kwaito, the duo was brought together by Mduduzi Mdlongwa of 3D Events who saw potential in the pair.
“The idea of oBhudas on the Decks is to create a more settled DJ line that will cater for the mature who love rich music. These are mature DJs that I saw have chemistry when they were playing together one day at Hartsfield Tshisanyama.
“I noticed the crowd’s reaction when they played and said to myself if I were to make them a duo the two would be a hit by the end of the year,” said Mdlongwa.
He said there was a gap in the industry where people miss the old school, mature, deep house vibe of music.
“I noticed that very few people have managed to tap into that and these guys have brought that vibe. I believe this type of vibe is needed by Bulawayo especially on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, they’ll be the ideal DJs for many places,” said Mdlongwa.
“We don’t have our own mature Kingpin DJs that have walked the walk and talked the talk. DJ Grooveman and Keitho have been round and when it comes to the knowledge of music, its deep. Having given the chance people will enjoy what they offer them all throughout this year.”
