DEPUTY Minister of Trade and Industry, Raj Modi is set to hold a cycling event that will cover 434 km over a week to raise awareness on the dangers of Covid-19.

There are growing fears that people are relaxing due to the reduced lockdown regulations although infections continue to rise.

People are seen not wearing masks and failing to practice social distancing which could lead to higher infections.

Modi said cycling begin in Bulawayo and end in Harare from

14 to 21 November.

He said the event is open to all

Zimbabweans and they are seeking corporate partners to make the event a success.

“We want to make the event a success so can we would like to have more people come on board and join.

People need

will to be aware the virus is still with us and will be here for a while so we should not relax and allow infections to rise.”

One of the organisers, Sean Sendamayi said they were engaging other corporates to partner them as they will be stopping in various communities and making donations.

“There are several companies that we have engaged and we will have the initial list on Wednesday but we are open to working with more entities in this initiative. Some seem to think the pandemic is over but as we have seen with the second wave in Europe, we cannot be so sure so we felt it is critical that we raise awareness of prevention of Covid19 and remind people of safe practices,” he said, adding they are also engaging professional cyclists for the journey.
