Loga to name Warriors squad for Algeria

- Mehluli Sibanda Senior Sports Reporter

ZIMBABWE Warriors coach, Zdravko Logarusic is expected to name his squad of 23 for the back to back Africa Cup of Nations qualifier fixtures against Algeria today.

The Warriors clash with the Dessert Foxes in the Algerian capital city on 12 November before the two teams meet at the National Sports Stadium four days later.

Xolisani Gwesela, the Zifa communications head of communications said the coach is naming his squad today at a press conference. Since Friday, a squad has been circulating on social media with those peddling it claiming that is the team for the two matches. Gwesela has however dismissed the squad as mere speculation, with Logarusic to name his troops today.

One of the talking points from the supposed squad is the omission of South Africa based Terrence Dzvukamanja who has started his career well at Orlando Pirates and could give Logarusic attacking options. It remains to be seen if the Croatian has indeed left out Dzvukamanja in favour of players such as Ovidy Karuru who is not attached to any team after parting ways with South African premiership side Stellenbosch FC in September.

Tanzania based striker, Prince Dube skipped last month’s friendly match against Malawi with his club Azam claiming that he was recovering from a hamstring injury. Dube has scored six goals and weighed in with four assists in the nine league matches he has played for Azam. There is no doubt that Logarusic needs the in-form former Bosso striker against the reigning African champions.

The Warriors are second in group H where they have four points after a 0-0 draw with Botswana at home and a 2-1 triumph over Zambia in Lusaka. Algeria top the log with six points, having drubbed Zambia 5-0 at home before they recorded a 1-0 win over Botswana in Gaborone. — @Mdawini_29
