Pronix readies album

- Bruce Ndlovu Sunday Life Reporter

AFTER seemingly conquering his demons, afro pop sensation Prosper “Pronix” Ndebele appears ready to go a gear up on his career, with the release of his comeback album Inde le Ndlela.

The musician, who is set to release the Zola Beats-produced single Qaphela alongside Kata on 23 September, which is also his birthday, has finished work on his album.

It marks a remarkable turnaround for the young musician, who has battled alcoholism while he was also the victim of a double hit and run that left him wheelchair bound.

Speaking to Sunday Life, the man regarded as one of Bulawayo’s most gifted vocalists said the album had been a labour of love, as putting together funds for its release had been a hard task.

“I have been working on this project for over a year but due to financial constraints, I was unable to complete it on time. I then started doing shows with Jam Session Band. At one of our shows at Smoke House I was introduced to a man Fortune “FM” Mpofu who quickly became a good friend. He is based in South Africa so we work back-toback when he comes down to Zimbabwe.

“We are officially launching Qaphela with Mr Kata on Friday 23 September. Qaphela the single is about a guy confessing that he has been unsuccessful in relationships and he admits it was mostly his fault his previous relationships failed. So, he’s telling this lady he is with that we can try but guard your heart,” he said.

Pronix said his well-chronicled troubles were the inspiration behind the album.

“The inspiration behind the album is all the trials and tribulations I have gone through and alsothedesireto create quality music that will turn attention towards Matabeleland music and arts. Having more of our own material will also be a great advantage because now when people hire “Pronix” they expect my own music, not music from other artistes,”

he said.
