New advisory council for Bulawayo Polytechnic
THE Government has appointed a new 14-member advisory council for Bulawayo Polytechnic drawn from various disciplines to advise and make recommendations to the principal on the administration of the tertiary institution.
The appointments were made by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development. The advisory council is chaired by Mrs Memory Sachirarwe, a management consultant, who is deputised by Bulawayo City Council’s Clr Rodney Jele.
Other members include Mr Professor Twala, Mrs Nonhlanhla Ndlovu (legal consultant), Mr Collin Shamhuyarira (Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe), Mrs Sithembile Ncube (management consultant), Masvingo Poly principal Engineer Callisto Muzongondi, Reverend Father Hlakanipha Dube from the Roman Catholic Church, Engineer Ronald Kwenda, Mrs Gezekile Khabo (Empretec Zimbabwe), Miss Shillah Sithole (Students Representative), Mr Qinisela Ndlovu (Bulawayo Polytechnic staff representative) and Ms Busisiwe Moyo the council’s secretary.
In an interview with Sunday News Bulawayo Polytechnic principal, Mrs Chiedza Masanganise confirmed the constitution of the advisory council saying they had already held their initial induction meeting.
“Yes, the advisory council has been constituted and they held their first meeting a couple of weeks ago and they are raring to go,” said Mrs Masanganise.
Meanwhile, the Bulawayo City Council has also endorsed the appointment of Clr Jele into the advisory council, with councillors passing acceding to the appointment during a full council meeting held at the Small City Hall on Wednesday.
“On behalf of the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira, I am delighted to inform you that the minister has appointed you Councillor Rodney Jele as Member of Bulawayo Polytechnic Advisory Council for a period of two years up to 1 September 2024.
“The council plays an advisory role as stipulated in Section 13 of the aforementioned Statutory Instrument. It is our fervent hope that you will commit yourself to growth of the Polytechnic through full participation in the meetings and other activities as per the law,” reads part of the letter from the ministry informing Clr Jele of his new appointment.
According to the Manpower Planning and Development (Government Teachers Colleges and Technical or Vocational Institutions) Regulations, the functions of the advisory council is to advice and make recommendations to the principal on the administration and application of the amenities fund and development fund and proposals for the annual budget of the institution.
