Man murdered for failing to pay sex worker

A 32-YEAR-OLD Zaka man was allegedly killed by a 24-year-old commercial sex worker last week for failing to pay for her services.

Alphios Mukovera of Manyanga Village, Chief Nhema, Zaka in Masvingo was beaten to death by Susan Chokungwar­a of Chipfunde Village, Chief Bota, Zaka with the help of her two friends, Talent Mugari (19) of Gudo Village, Chief Ziki, Bikita and Panashe Chiwira (21) who resides at Chigure Shop, Jerera Growth Point, Zaka for failing to honour his part of the agreement.

Masvingo police spokespers­on Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident saying the two who spent the greater part of the night together till the closure of the Nherera Nite Club had a fall out when Mukovera stormed out of Chokungwar­a’s room without paying.

“On 10 October Mukovera and his friend

Kudakwashe Mamombe drove from Chiromo mining area to Nherera Nite Club in Jerera for a beer binge. Mukovera proposed love to Chokungwar­a who agreed and the two were together till the nightclub closed after which they went to Chokungwar­a’s place,” he said.

Mukovera is said to have refused to pay for the services rendered and stormed out of the room but Chokungwar­a teamed up with her friends Chiwira and Mugari and assaulted him while demanding that he pays Chokungwar­a.

“Mukovera ran for 150 metres before the trio caught up with him and started to beat him with sticks all over the body until he was unconsciou­s. He was found dead by passers-by and the matter was reported to the Zaka police.”

Mukovera sustained deep cuts on his face, swollen lips, deep cuts at the back of the head and had a few missing teeth. Investigat­ions were carried out leading to the arrest of the trio.

In a separate incident an 83-year-old

Benson Chikati of Wasara Ranch, Chiredzi was assaulted to death by Kenias Magadzire (21) and Serudzai Magadzire (45) of Machiva Village, Chief Bota, Zaka over accusation of witchcraft. Chikati who tried to defend himself with a hoe was assaulted by the duo with sticks and catapults.

He was helped by neighbours who found him sitting next to his fowl run. He died at about 8pm in his house. Meanwhile, on 12 October around 5pm a 25-year-old Sahesa Zhou of Mukwasha Village, Headman Gwenzi, Chief Mazetese was stabbed with a knife on the left back shoulder by Tovimba Shumba after they had a misunderst­anding over beer at Mananga Business Centre in Mwenezi.

Shumba and two other accomplice­s fled the scene leaving Zhou bleeding profusely. Zhou died later on the same day and the matter was reported to the police

Insp Dhewa urged members of the public to always find amicable ways of resolving their disputes other than violence.
