Youth organisations embark on empowerment programmes

- Judith Phiri Business Reporter

THE Youth Network Connect (YNC) in partnership with Zimbabwe Young Graduates have set out empowerment development programmes in a bid to build the economic power of young people.

In an interview, YNC managing director Mr Philimon Nyirenda said they had begun the initiative in Matabeleland North.

“Young people have the time and talent to make a difference in the world. With little guidance and freedom to make choices, the youth can respond to their needs through volunteerism and tapping into empowerment initiatives. Together with

Zimbabwe Young Graduates we visited Colmore in Bubi District, Matabeleland North, where we set out the empowerment development programmes for the youth,” said Mr Nyirenda.

He said they believed that the youth are a valuable resource for the nation and they ought to be involved in community development. Mr Nyirenda said encouraging and allowing opportunities for adult-youth-collaboration, community organisations could help the youth to learn valuable skills and prepare them to become civically engaged adults.

“We are a youth-civic-engagement initiative dedicated to building the power of young people. Our efforts focus on research-driven programmes and innovative solutions to right the system and ensure each youth generation is represented in our communities. We envision a society where each youth generation is represented and has a deciding voice.”

Meanwhile, the YNC will be hosting an Entrepreneurship Expo Dinner on 12 November, which aims at accelerating the creation of more job makers and less job seekers. The event will run under the theme: “building youth entrepreneurship and business partnerships for a diversified inclusive economic transformation.”
