BULAWAYO is set to host South African house music royalty today, with renowned wheel spinner Oscar Mbo set to enthrall revellers at the Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC), where he is set to perform at a themed “All Black Party”.

Mbo has become one of the most prominent names in Mzansi deep house, holding the fort for the genre at a time when amapiano are dominating both the airwaves and the charts.

“It might be difficult at times to be a deep house DJ in an era when there isn’t much of it being distributed in the public,” Mbo recently told Apple Music. “However, my passion of deep house music has kept me going.”

Mbo’s perseverance seems to be paying off, as he is now one of the most sought after acts in Mzansi, but in borders beyond.

In an interview, one of the organisers of the gig, fellow DJ Da Grooveman, said the SAMA awards nominee was eager to make a deep impression in the city on his first appearance.

“It is a pleasure for us to bring Oscar Mbo here because we haven’t had a deep house act of this calibre here in a long time. Of course, he knows Bulawayo is the house capital of Bulawayo and he will want to give the people a memorable show,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ndebele dancehall star Ma9Nine will try to show his mettle and pull a crowd on the same day as a foreign act when he performs at the Boundary also today.

The show, which is part of his EP tour, will feature local performers that include DJ Keitho, DJ Mzoe, Kead Wikead and DJ Fifi among others.
