Minister Judy — Hwange gospel diva with a difference
GOSPEL music industry is often referred to be one of the complex industries to grow in especially if the artiste is hailing from small towns like Hwange. The media blackout and lack of exposure are some of the challenges faced by the artistes. But the story is different for Judith Mudimba, an up-and-coming gospel artiste from the mining town.
Born on 18 September 1989 in Hwange, Mudimba also known as Minister Judy, has started her gospel industry with a bang as social media is awash with her popular Tonga track entitled Jehova ngumayubilo angu. She wants to spread the Word of God through singing in Tonga language.
“I cannot preach but I can sing so that the word of God continues to be heard. I was born in a Christian family where my parents were pastors. I am daughter to Pastor Mudimba, I grew up in the house of God seeing His greatness and goodness, therefore singing was the best thing I could do to thank Him.”
Minister Judy, who is also into entrepreneurship says the Lord has been faithful to her despite the economic hardship the country has been facing.
“In a year when there was Covid-19, my businesses stopped but God helped I never went hungry and I lacked nothing. I have been singing in church choirs but I decided to record this year in April. My first song says Jehovah ngumayubilo angu (Jehovah is my refuge). The second song says nguLeza wezigambyo (He is the God of miracles), and the last song says wabuka Jesu wandinyampwida mitolo (Jesus has risen and carried my burdens).”
She did her primary level at Makwika School and her secondary level at Nejambezi School, Jambezi. She was born and grew up in a family of believers, Assemblies of God Church. As she grew up, she started worshipping at House of Christ Ministries.
“I see the desire of people to praise and worship God. My desire is that in 2030 the whole world should know that there is a Tonga worshipper in Hwange, by the Grace of God everyone to know my songs,” she said.
