Artistes for cleanup campaign
ZIMBABWEAN artists have come together in support of Dereck Mpofu’s the “Church Goes Green” album launch initiative in Harare this Saturday.
The launch will include a clean-up campaign in the CBD.
Albert Nyathi, Bethany Pasinawako-Ngolomi, Pax Gomo, Extreme Afrique are some of the artists who will take part in the clean-up campaign.
Mpofu expressed joy that the initiative involving churches on environmental issues had been successful.
He said the “Church Goes Green” album launch will be graced by Environment, Water and Climate Minister Oppah Muchinguri.
“Our churches have raised their voice and have come together to do an environmental musical album which will be launched on April 16 at the Harare Gardens.”
Among the guests will be Harare Mayor Cllr Bernard Manyenyeni, chief executives, church leaders and decision makers.
The Green Ambassador, as Mpofu is popularly known, advocates for environmental conservation. He has recruited interested voices regardless of their religious backgrounds to take part, compose and sing a song centred on the theme “Waste Management/ Marara”.
At least 24 churches took part on the album and the DVD.
Mpofu said the door was still open to other denominations interested in taking part in the project. The album carries 24 individual songs by each denomination with one song sung by the combined participants in the initiative.
