WE ALL go through dark moments, when our emotions are erratic and our tears are close. During this period most people become sullen and silent, they just sink into a shell. Insomnia soon follows and they struggle to sleep. We have all gone through similar experiences.

Have you ever cried yourself to sleep? Are you crying yourself to sleep? Is your life devoid of joy? Despite the bright skies outside, is your mind telling you that you have absolutely nothing to live for? You feel so let down by the people around you, they didn’t live up to the promises they made to you.

Life seems to be one deep black hole. Nothing positive has happened in a long time, you are on this never ending roller coaster of endless misfortune. Does this description sound like someone you know?

In recent years, it has become the norm to be depressed. I have often wondered how best to describe depression. Based on my own moments of difficulty, when I have been on an emotional roller coaster of negativity, I have come to describe depression as a state of affairs, a serious condition in which a person feels very sad, hopeless and unimportant. One has absolutely nothing to look forward to, it just feels like it’s the end of the road. We all go through moments like that, don’t we?

Sometimes our emotional downs can get to a point where we feel like falling apart. Stress becomes so debilitating that we end up morphing into a totally new person who becomes unpleasant and difficult to live with. Our emotional lows not only hurt us, but the people around us who have to bear the brunt of this new person we become.

1 Peter 4 verses 12 to 13 aptly tells us that fiery trials will occur in our life, and that these occurrences will appear strange. It also says, which is a lesson I have learnt, that when we encounter these dark moments and everything else seems to be failing around us, we should turn to our Maker, as we take cognisance that He too suffered and that these things we are going through can be overcome through Him, just as He overcame His trials by rising from the dead through the power of the Father. Be blessed. REFLECTIONSOF A WORKINPROGRESS
