PREPARATIONS for Miss University of Zimbabwe are currently underway with a number of artists confirming their participation.

On-fire duo of Ammara Brown and Tytan are set to headline the event together with seasoned musicians including Cynthia Mare, Mudiwahood and Probeatz among others.

The pageant is set to be held on April 23 at the University of Zimbabwe Great Hall, under the theme “Beauty, Brains and a Heart for Charity”.

In an interview, one of the organisers of the pageant Hubert Samboko said preparations are going on well with a number of musicians keen to perform at the event.

“We are through with the auditions and 12 girls have made it to the finals. The models will go through a thorough process of coaching and grooming by Afrique Angel, Black Opal, ChenaNeni Fashions, Vaida and Tafadzwa Jaricha, the outgoing Miss UZ who is also the reigning Miss Universities,” he said.

Samboko added that the queen will walk away with a number of prizes including cash and will also take part in the Miss Universities national pageant.

“The Queen will walk away with a cash prize and various sponsored prizes such a phones, hampers and vouchers. She will also, automatically become a finalist at this year’s Miss Universities where she will stand a chance to represent Zimbabwe in Miss Universities World.

“Miss UZ is a beauty pageant organised by the Rotaract Club of the University of Zimbabwe to raise funds for a home we support, Danai Children’s Home and to fund our other community service events such as environmen- tal campaigns and career guidance of high school students. This pageant is also inspired by the desire to positively contribute towards uplifting the girl child through personality and career development,” he said.

Last year a 19-year-old law student, Jaricha, took the crown. First Princess was Chiyedza Chinake and Second Princess was Sithembiso Sweswe.

The proceeds from the Miss UZ 2015 went to Chinyaradzo Children’s Home and this year they are going to Danai Children’s Home.
