Musicians, fans hail Gloria Flour 3-city tour

A PROMOTIONAL tour held recently by National Foods through their Gloria Flour brand took music to the people and promoted women from different backgrounds.

The tour, which featured musicians Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu, Sebastain Magacha, Shinsoman, Selmor Mtukudzi, Rute Mbangwa and Aliana, started in Chitungwiza, went to Bulawayo and ended in Harare.

For just $1, people got to see the stars in action and went away with free packets of Gloria flour.

Unlike other merrymaking shows that have more male attendees, the Gloria Flour tour attracted large numbers of women from various backgrounds.

The results were positive because the tour was meant to salute women that have shown confidence in Gloria Flour which has been in existence since 1920.

Musicians that took part in the tour said they were happy to meet crowds dominated by women that were mostly housewives because they rarely have chances to perform for that section of fans.

“We know we have many fans among housewives and most of them play our music in their homes, but rarely get chances to come for shows,” said Jah Prayzah.

“We usually perform for male fans because of the times and venues for most of our shows, but this tour has been different. It has brought us close to another section of our fans that mainly play our music in their homes.

“We could tell with the excitement at the shows that most women had been waiting for such an opportunity. We salute organisers of the show for the eye-opening tour.”

Sulu said the events were more of free shows because most fans went away with loads of Gloria Flour packets and were treated to top class entertainment.

“I could not believe the rate at which the organisers were giving away packets of flour. Almost everyone went away with something. How many times do you have so many stars on one stage and get into the show for $1? For starters, everyone who got into the show got packets of Gloria Flour and the give-aways went on throughout the shows,” said Sulu.

“It was a really good tour and the Bulawayo show was most exciting because fans came in huge numbers and they cheered us throughout the gig. We urge the organisers to keep coming up with such shows because it gives people chances to have fun for less entry fees.

“We rarely have real live shows that start early and present fun for mothers and children, but the Gloria tour filled that gap and women that attended the shows were really excited.”

After her performance at Harare Gardens, Rute Mbangwa said the experience was exceptional.

“I was happy to see so many women in the show. It is not often that you have mature women coming for shows with their kids. We are used to shows that are dominated by male fans. This show was indeed a platform to entertain end uplift women. They went away with many prizes and they enjoyed the music,” said Rute.

Some women that attended the Harare edition of the tour applauded National Foods for organising the Gloria Tour.

“Since my mother taught me about Gloria Flour, I have been using it throughout my life. I am happy to go away with so many packets of the product after enjoying good music. It was always my wish to see Jah Prayzah on stage and this event was a dream come true for me. I enjoyed his performance,” said Alice Makwena from Glen View.

“It was an exciting show. I heard about the show on Star FM when they were broadcasting the gigs in Bulawayo and Chitungwiza. I came knowing that I would go away loaded and I will spend the next month baking with my favourite flour. I was happy to see Pathisani and KVG (Star FM presenters that hosted the tour) on stage. I always follow their show on radio and it was a nice experience to see them live on stage,” said Martha Katenda of Hatfield.

An official from National Foods said the tour was a success and their aim to uplift women had been achieved. He thanked musicians for outstanding performances during the tour and saluted women as well as Gloria Flour consumers at large for supporting the tour.
