I HAD an interesting conversation with a dear brother that was inspired by an earlier devotion where I had written about people and their habits. He has had a major injustice perpetuated against him over the last few months and is extremely upset about how things have panned out.

He has reached a point where he feels that the Lord is not hearing his prayers and therefore the time may have come to take matters into his own hands. During our discussion, he expressed that he believes that the time may have come for the principle of “an eye for an eye” to apply.

I guess in some way he is right, God can appear to be very distant to a point where you just cannot hear Him. In moments like that, emotionally, one goes through various stages starting with the sheer belief that God has abandoned His own. You eventually turn to anger, then bitterness and finally you just give up on God.

Moses was born of Jewish descent, and brought up as Egyptian royalty. As a prince he grew up with the finest that life has to offer. Egypt was one of the greatest kingdoms of that time and this child, born of slaves and who had to be hidden in order to avoid death had been somehow chosen and through this process, was enjoying the best life could offer.

As God intended, he was to be thrown out of his comfort zone, he fled into the harsh desert and ended up a lowly shepherd. In this barren desert, far away from the opulence of his childhood, God appeared before him and gave him a mission befitting a prince, to lead his people out of Egypt.

We are all like Moses, we are thrust into places where we cannot possibly understand how things have gone wrong. We are abused beyond measure and we sometimes sit up and ask “but where is God in all this?”

The truth is that God is always present, slowly directing your steps to align with His will for your life. You may ask, “But why did I have to endure so much?” Moses could have asked why he needed to be removed from his parents and why he ended up a shepherd.

The truth is we may never be able to answer why God chooses to allow us to go through certain trials.

Be blessed.
