SECRETARY for Mines and Mining Development Professor Francis Gudyanga’s alleged corrupt dealings are a clear indication of what happens when one person is given too many posts. How does one become accountable given such conflict of interest? Zimbabwe has many qualified people but one person is given many posts as if his education is more equal than others’. This is what is keeping our generation in the cold. — Costa Machekano, Gweru.

*** What part do consumers and travellers have in installing a mayor in South Africa? The South African Government must distinguish demonstrators from criminals and deal with the latter accordingly. It must also bear the responsibility of protecting and compensating victims of this criminality. — Tafadzwa Hungwe, Chitungwiza.

*** Government’s move to encourage consumption of locally produced products is understandable and forward-thinking. I however hope Government will introduce a law to stop local businesses from hiking prices of basic commodities whose importation it has controlled. We hope that the well-intentioned move to grow local industry will not result in inflation and a shortage of commodities. — Concerned, Harare.

*** Demonstrators in South Africa have lost their way. A demonstration is supposed to be a civilised way of making your concerns heard by as many people as possible but loses that intention the moment it turns into a violent looting spree. That is the kind of behaviour we would least expect even from criminals, much less citizens supposedly protesting on an ethical point. I hope the ANC and the bus company will fully compensate those innocent victims some of whom, we are told, were coming from a family visit. — Disappointed.
