TEAM Zimbabwe for the Homeless World Cup football tournament will host a fund-raising dinner dance at the Crowne Plaza Monomotapa hotel in Harare this evening.

The Homeless World Cup is an annual international tournament that uses football to empower people who are homeless, marginalised or socially secluded to change their lives.

The event is a gathering of more than 70 countries, including Zimbabwe, and this year’s tournament will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 10-16.

Zimbabwe have been invited to take part in this global tournament and the Young Achievement Sports for Development, the Homeless World Cup national partner in this country, will tonight host a fundraising dinner dance at the Crowne Plaza Monomotapa to raise funds for Team Zimbabwe’s trip to Scotland.

Team Zimbabwe are looking at raising $20 000.

Their manager, Tendai “T-Buns” Zhakata, said yesterday everything was now in place.

“We are 80 percent ready to host a successful fund-raising dinner dance to be held tomorrow (tonight).

“We have engaged corporates who took up some tables and I can say everything is now in place for the dinner dance.

“However, we still need support as there are several other things which we need to cover like camping for the team before they leave for Scotland at the beginning of next month,” said Zhakata.

Team Zimbabwe has already received some support from the Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters’ Association through their leader, Eddie “Mboma” Nyatanga, who has already pledged $500 towards their trip to Scotland.

Team Zimbabwe’s training camp in Liverpool is being facilitated by former Zimbabwe international defender Chamu Musanhu, who is now based in the English city.

In Liverpool, Team Zimbabwe will be hosted by the Liverpool Homeless Football Club. Zimbabwe is currently sitting at 29th in the overall rankings after last year’s performance, where they finished in 15th place, just above the 2016 hosts — Scotland.
