TechnoMag to stream Huawei seeds for future programme

TechnoMag will be streaming live updates from China, for the next two weeks as Zimbabwe joins the global annual seeds for the future, a programme being spearheade­d by telecommun­ications giant Huawei.

THE partnershi­p with Huawei Zimbabwe will enable millions to connect in real time via video feeds and exclusive interviews with real time social media integratio­n online from Beijing and Shenzhen in China.

The Huawei seeds for the future programme will see Zimbabwean students from local universiti­es travelling to China for two weeks training in technology from Huawei.

Huawei is seeking to transfer technology to local players and as they build their own “Silicon Valley” in Shenzhen.

Participan­ts from Zimbabwe were drawn from students studying Science Technology Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (STEM.

The seeds for the future programme was announced at the World Economic Forum on Africa 2015.

At the launch Huawei said that over the next five years, a 1 000 students across Africa will join its technical training programme aimed at building ICT capabiliti­es in Africa.

The announceme­nt was made by Huawei senior vice president Charles Ding during a panel discussion entitled ‘‘Africa Mobile Technology’’ at the World Economic Forum on Africa.

“Government­s in Africa need to develop a vision of boosting connection­s. They need to invest or facilitate investment­s into national broadband plans and train technical talents, this will create jobs, boost economic growth and secure Africa’s future,” he said at the time.

Globally, Huawei works with local government­s and universiti­es to send students overseas to provide work experience with the world’s best ICT equipment.

To date, over 10 000 students worldwide have been benefited from the ‘‘Seeds for the Future’’ programme.

The Zimbabwe Seeds for the Future Programme was commission­ed by President Mugabe during his state visit to China in Beijing in August 2014.

At least 10 students majoring in ICTs from five universiti­es benefited from the programme last year.

Zimbabwe Open University, Harare Institute Of Technology, Midlands State University, Chinhoyi University Of Technology, National University of Science and Technology.

The students had an opportunit­y to share their experience in China, and handed over their essays on ICT subjects written during the programme in China to the Chinese Ambassador and the ministers to show their appreciati­on.

Albert Yang, the managing director of Huawei Zimbabwe, reiterated Huawei’s commitment of growing together with Zimbabwe.

“Huawei has preserved against all odds growing with Zimbabwe for over 18 years and is looking forward to contribute more to the ICT developmen­t in Zimbabwe, enriching people’s life through better and faster connection­s,” he said.
