‘Generations’ still SA’s favourite soap

-

JOHANNESBURG. - It seems that “Generations” may have won back its crown as the people’s champ‚ dethroning “Uzalo” as the most watched TV show in the country.

According to viewer audience statistics (known as TAMS) released this week‚ “Generations: The Legacy” amassed over 8 million viewers at its highest point in May‚ compared to “Uzalo”’s highest figures of just under 8 million.

The figures show “Generations” as the most-watched TV show in South Africa for the month of May‚ at 8 002 137 viewers to “Uzalo”’s 7 972 988.

Additional statistics provided to TMG Entertainment by the SABC show the figures dropped slightly at the start of June‚ but still saw “Generations” come out on top.

TV fans will remember the fierce battle for viewership numbers between the two shows last year.

“The Legacy” launched in December 2014 with a viewership figure of around 10 million.

But those numbers quickly dropped and the months that followed saw the show enter a see-saw battle with “Uzalo” for the top spot.

After several months of tussling at the top‚ “Uzalo” cemented its position as the most watched show in South Africa near the end of 2015.

The battle was made even more interesting by reports that “Generations” creator Mfundi Vundla had accused “Uzalo” of sabotaging his show and stealing his storylines‚ while maintaining that he did not see it as a competitor. - Sowetan.
