Prof Moyo’s rants worrying

-

EDITOR — Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo’s attempt to justify his alleged corrupt activities is mind blowing, especially coming from a person of his academic and political stature.

Good governance is channelling resources to their intended purposes, nothing more and nothing less.

The fact that he used the money to buy bicycles when it was meant for manpower development in the academic sector makes one wonder how much more money he has put to “noble” use.

If he is innocent of any wrongdoing as he claims, he should co-operate with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission instead of spending time trying to justify his case to his network of followers on Twitter.

There is evidence of misappropriation of funds which has been published in both The Herald and its sister paper, The Sunday Mail.

Surely, the learned professor cannot expect the whole nation to ignore the facts presented by bringing in issues of Gukurahundi and tribalism.

There is nothing tribal about asking a public servant to account for money meant to help students who are the future of this nation.

For a man who is spearheading the STEM initiative meant to equip students with technical and scientific skills for the benefit of the economy, his double standards are appalling.

Robin Hood was a thief; if one likens themselves to a thief in their own defence, it leaves a lot to be desired.

It is my sincere wish that the law is allowed to take its course, with no force exerted on it by our leader- ship. If indeed the Minister is innocent as he professes, he will surely be acquitted and if the authorities prove otherwise, he should face the music.

Rebuilding Zimbabwe will only have substantial meaning if and when we start to plug the leakages to our public funding and the Zimdef saga is a good place to start.

I hope your paper continues to follow the story until the very end. Naison Ndiweni, Via e-mail.
