Triangle target Fathy

TRIANGLE are on the verge of signing Egyptian gaffer Mohamed Fathy as their third head coach in as many years.

The club could not shed light on the appointment of Fathy but reports suggest the Egyptian might be back in the country for another dance in the domestic Premiership.

Fathy was the Kabwe Warriors coach and helped them finish in sixth place in the 18-team Zambian Super Division. They accrued 50 points. The Egyptian has coached Semad Talkha, Power Dynamos, and National Assembly Highlanders and here he had a stint with Highlanders.

His 13 years’ experience might be key in persuading Triangle if he agrees on a deal with the team from Lowveld.

Triangle are still to appoint head coach following the departure of veteran coach David “Yogi”Mandigora.

Mandigora is still clubless after the club did not renew his contract. The veteran coach only spent a season at the club. Triangle wanted Bosso coach Erol Akbay but they could not match the salary he is getting at Highlanders.

They even tried to lure Rahman Gumbo and Jairos Tapera but the executive failed to strike an agreement with the duo.

Sources said assistant coach Biggie Zuze and goalkeepers’ coach Tembo Chuma, whose contracts expired on December 31, will not be renewed.

Pre-season preparations was supposed to begin on Tuesday but the players were advised not to turn up as the club was still trying to find a coach.

“An announcement on the developments will be made in due course,” said Adelaide Chikunguru the Corporate Affairs and Communications Executive, for Tongaat Hulett, Zimbabwe.

Since their promotion in 2013, Triangle have changed coaches four times in the four years they have been in the Premiership.

Some critics have now begun to say that the focus should now be cast on the shortcomings of club leadership, rather than the technical staff, going forward.

The Northern Irishman was making his first appearance at the tournament since 2008 and he managed to roll in seven birdies, including four straight birdies from holes 14-17, after starting at the 10th. Thomas Aiken, Jordan Smith and Zimbabwe-born Dean Burmester were alongside McIlroy after a five-under 67.

Ernie Els and defending champion Brandon Stone started on two-over par 74.
