Actions speak louder than words, Sir Wicknell

- Mai Kuda, Highfield.

EDITOR - Wicknell Chivayo is a respected businessman who is in charge of projects of national importance, in the energy sector in particular.

His attacks on journalist Garikai Mazara are worrying, to say the least. He should be a role model who knows that criticism is not intended to hurt, but an honest inquiry on the prevailing state of affairs.

He had no right to insult a journalist for doing his job. He got a multimillion-dollar tender from a public institution. It is the journalists’ job to follow up on progress made in those projects.

If he was a level-headed individual, he should have known that giving a lucid response was going to do his business more good than harm.

Instead, he chose to be vulgar about it, showing his lack of business communication skills.

No wonder people are questioning the legitimacy of his contract and whether he can afford to implement it. He is not the type of man anyone can entrust with millions of taxpayers’ money.

Chivayo also made a reckless statement that seemed like he discriminates against people living with HIV/Aids. If anything, does he know Mazara’s HIV status and is it his (Chivayo’s) business to disclose it?

If it was in any other country, he should have had that tender taken away from him because of his unfortunate and insensitive remarks. Can the authorities establish ethics for people who preside over public contracts?

Chivayo can be made an example of how the authorities deal with overzealous characters in that position.
